Development Assistant — Full-time position providing all-round administrative and support services to PAN’s membership and fundraising program. The Assistant is an integral part of a three-person Development Department, strengthening individual member and foundation communication and cultivation, and collaborates in data entry, records management and other administrative processes. Institutional Giving Manager — PAN’s principal proposals and funding reports writer, the Institutional Giving Manager coordinates the applications and reporting processes with institutional donors (including large foundations, family foundations, agencies, donor-advised funds and business supporters). S/he researches, plans, writes and submits grant applications; maintains systems for grant tracking and management; prepares and submits reports; and evaluates and proposes improvements in the grants program. The manager also supports other Development team efforts as needed, such as the donor newsletter, special events and membership mailings.

Executive Director, Californians for Pesticide Reform — CPR is seeking a motivated, independent and committed person to join our team and bring strategic vision and leadership to pesticide, agriculture and environmental justice issues. CPR is a dynamic statewide coalition founded in 1996 to protect public health, improve environmental quality, and advance a sustainable and just agricultural system by building a diverse statewide movement to change local and statewide pesticide policies and practices. The coalition is deeply committed to environmental health and justice. With over 190 member organizations statewide, CPR’s collaborative model, diversity of strategies and strong grassroots participation have allowed us to achieve great gains in environment- and health-protective pesticide practices and policies in California.

The Director is responsible for leading strategic coalition development, including long-term program strategy and resource development. The Director is responsible for leading staff and coalition members with vision and attention to CPR's theory of change and coalition values, and ensuring effective coalition strategy, funding, structure and culture.

Contract Iowa Organizer  — PAN is seeking a high-impact Organizer to support powerful legislation in the state of Iowa to protect farmers and rural communities from pesticide drift. PAN is working with the Iowa Farmer’s Union and other allies to pass state legislation to help prevent pesticide drift from impacting food production and public health. The Organizer will help build through community outreach, media work, direct lobbying, and online engagement. This advocacy position combines coalition-building with community organizing and expertise in both social and traditional media. Preferred base is in Des Moines, though we will consider candidates in other parts of Iowa; includes travel throughout the state. The position ideally starts September 28th and ends June 17, 2015.

Contract Communications Coordinator  — Part-time position for experienced contract Communications Coordinator with a national consortium of organizations working to advance protections for bees (see Save-Bees.org). The position combines content creation and press engagement, and requires strong writing skills, attention to detail and ease with working in a dynamic coalition environment on short deadlines. The ideal candidate will also have a deep interest in strategic communications for social and food system change. This competitive position starts as soon as possible, with an initial contract through January 2016, and potential for renewal thereafter. Requires approximately 40 hours/month, with potential for growth.

Why work with PAN?

Interns and volunteers work with PAN staff, conducting research, analysis and outreach for specific projects and campaigns. They carry out PAN’s mission of making the world a more healthy and just place by replacing pesticides with ecologically sound alternatives. Some concrete benefits include:

Experience in the nonprofit world

You gain experience in the day-to-day general operation of a non-governmental organization (NGO) and learn how advocacy, coalition-building, and organizational development is conducted.

Experience with pesticide-related issues

PAN works on the local, state, national and international levels in its efforts to reduce pesticide use and promote alternatives. You will learn about the scientific, political, social and economic issues that affect the regulation and release of pesticides into the environment.

Project guidance and support

You work closely with PAN staff on your project. Depending upon the nature of the project, you conduct library and web research, write up your results, assist with development tasks and help with campaigns on pesticides, policies, economics and/or alternative agriculture.

Receive college credit

We work with students who wish to receive college credit and faculty who wish to place students to provide an experience that meets academic requirements.

Flexible schedule

While we ask you for a specific time commitment, we can be flexible to meet individual scheduling needs.

Transportation stipend

Our office is conveniently located by the Powell Street BART and Muni stations. PAN reimburses local daily transportation costs for interns and some volunteers.

 

Qualifications

We are looking for people who share a commitment to environmental and social justice issues and a special interest in pesticide reform. We seek competent people who are self-motivated, willing to be flexible, capable of working independently, and can work in a team. Good writing and computer skills are desired; additional language skills are a plus. Some projects require a science or information technology background. We try to match your skills, experience, and interest with PAN program and campaign needs.
