Dow dollars dirty Olympic games

The Olympics are in high gear, and while runners, swimmers and gymnasts wow the crowd,  the festivities are overshadowed by the games' dubious sponsors. Dow Chemical is a major sponsor of the London Olympics, despite protests around the world and opposition efforts by Indian civil society and government.

As the owner of the company that perpetrated one of the worst industrial disasters in history, Dow Chemical has done absolutely nothing to accept responsibility for, or compensate the victims of, the ongoing Bhopal Gas Tragedy of 1984.

To add insult to injury, Dow's toxic legacy of human rights abuse is being completely ignored by the International Olympics Committee, who are essentially awarding Dow misplaced international goodwill and brand recognition by allowing the corporation to sponsor this prestigious event on the global stage.

The Olympic Committee is not alone, however, in granting Dow a free pass. Dow and the Big 6 have an impressive track record of getting away with blatant human rights violations, while our governments stand by and fail to act. This is why it's so important for us — individuals and communities — to act, and hold corporations accountable across borders of geography and time.

Take Action » Pesticide Action Network stands with the International Campaign for Justice in Bhopal in exposing and opposing Dow's sponsorship of the Olympics. You can join us by signing the Avaaz petition calling on the Indian Minister of Home Affairs P. Chidambaram to stop shielding Dow and stand up for the survivors of Bhopal instead.
