Why Work With PANNA?
Interns,Volunteers and Associates work with program staff, conducting research,analysis and outreach for specific projects and campaigns, as well aspromoting PANNA's mission of making the world a more healthy and justplace by replacing pesticides with ecologically sound alternatives.Some concrete benefits include:
Experience in the nonprofit world
You gain experience in the day-to-day general operation of anon-governmental organization (NGO) and learn how advocacy,coalition-building, and organizational development is conducted.
Experience with pesticide-related issues
PANNAworks on the local, state, national and international levels in itsefforts to reduce pesticide use and promote alternatives. You willlearn about the scientific, political, social, and economic issues thataffect the regulation and release of pesticides into the environment.
Project guidance and support
Youwork closely with PANNA staff on your project. Depending upon thenature of the project, you conduct library and web research, write upyour results, and help with campaigns on pesticides, policies,economics, and/or alternative agriculture.
A way to publish your work
You may have the opportunity to publish your research results in our internationally distributed publication, the Global Pesticide Campaigner, inone of our reports issued through Californians for Pesticide Reform(CPR), or in the online Pesticide Action Network Updates Service(PANUPS).
Full access to our resources
You may utilize PANNA's comprehensive resources, general office facilities, and extensive library holdings.
Receive college credit
Wework with students who wish to receive college credit and faculty whowish to place students to provide an experience that meets academicrequirements.
Flexible schedule
While we ask you for a specific time commitment, we can be flexible to meet individual scheduling needs.
Transportation stipend
Ouroffice is conveniently located by the Powell Street BART and Munistations. PANNA provides a stipend to cover local daily transportationcosts.
Qualifications
Weare looking for people who share a commitment to environmental andsocial justice issues and a special interest in pesticide reform. Weseek competent people who are self-motivated, capable of workingindependently, and willing to work flexibly in a team. Good writing andcomputer skills are desired; additional language skills are a plus.Some projects require a science or information technology background.We try to match your skills, experience, and interest with PANNAprogram and campaign needs.
Types of Positions Available
PANNA Volunteer
Do you want to help PANNA with its important mission but don't havemuch time or can't commit for long? If so, the PANNA Volunteer positionis for you. We have a number of smaller projects available that permityou to work as much or as little as you like, enabling you to fit avolunteer position into a busy schedule. You'll find out what it's like to work ina non-profit environment and gain valuable experience that can pave theway for your own career in the non-profit world. This category ofservice is also open to volunteers who are looking for communityservice opportunities. PANNA Associate
The PANNA Associate position is open toskilled professionals who wish to contribute their expertise to advancePANNA's mission of promoting sustainable pest management practices.Perhaps you are in transition between two careers, re-entering theworkplace after an absence, or would like to gain some experienceworking at a non-profit to increase your employability in this arena.If this sounds like your situation, the PANNA Associate position may befor you. Sponsored programs
PANNAhas special relationships with a number of organizations who placevolunteers in full-time, 1-2 year positions at non-profit serviceorganizations like PANNA . We have arrangements with the Brethren Volunteer Service, Mennonite Volunteer Service, and Lutheran Volunteer Corps.Participants in sponsored programs work full-time and are fullyintegrated into the PANNA staff. The level of support varies dependingon the program, but living expenses are covered for all programs.Individuals interested in participating through a Sponsored Programshould contact the organization of interest directly.
