California Campaigns Intern

 

General Job Description

The intern will be an integral member of the PANNA Campaigns Department, focusing on campaigns to reduce the use of and exposure to highly hazardous pesticides in California. The intern will assist with all aspects of the campaign including campaign coordination, interpreting scientific data for lay audiences, public outreach, campaigns material production, and website maintenance. The intern may have the opportunity to represent PANNA in communications with affiliate organizations on behalf of the program with which the intern is involved. Spanish language skills considered a plus. Applicants looking for a longer-term (at least 6 months) internship are preferred.

 

Responsibilities

  • Campaign coordination: help keep campaign activities, timeline organized
  • Synthesize scientific data for a variety of lay audiences including farmworkers, rural families, suburban families and policymakers
  • Create documents / campaigns materials (e.g. fact sheets)
  • Revise and update existing campaigns materials, including webpages
  • Draft letters and statements to be used in campaign
  • Participate in the formation of campaign strategy
  • May be asked to assist with some support tasks for campaign such as photocopying, proofreading…etc.

 

Qualifications

  • Comfortable with public outreach
  • Strong interest in environmental/public health, pesticide reform, or social justice
  • Experience living/working in the California Central Valley or Central Coast
  • Ability to work both independently as well as an active group participant
  • Ability to keep work organized in order for it to be interpreted by future interns or PANNA staff
Time requirement: We prefer to have interns that can commit to 20 hours per week, however schedules are somewhat flexible. For this position, we will give preference to candidates who are looking for a longer-term internship (at least 6 months).


Location: Most work will occur in the San Francisco office. There may be some opportunity for work at home, if desired, and some opportunity for work in the field.

There is no stipend associated with intern positions at PAN; however, we do reimburse any local commuting costs.
