Leslee Matthews is an advocate for social change and justice and passionate about connecting the community with resources and resources with the community. Leslee grew up on Maui and most recently moved back to Hawai‘i from Texas to attend law school to enhance her skills to better serve underserved people and marginalized communities. From time spent in the lo‘i planting and harvesting kalo, to helping restore native forests in Kahikinui, to spending time working in and for communities here and abroad, she is so thankful for all of the lessons life, friends, new friends along the way and ‘ohana have taught her. As the daughter of farmworker, she is eager to learn more about the challenges facing frontline communities as PAN’s Hawai‘i Organizing & Policy Fellow.  She is a proponent for empowerment through education, knowledge and service and is excited to use her passion for advocacy to champion the key issues of importance to PAN and the communities served.  Leslee has focused her research on social justice, human and civil rights, anti-discrimination and using education to overcome barriers to success. Leslee has earned her Master’s in Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington. She is currently a Third-Year law student at the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
