Despite DOJ Approval, Farmers Remain Opposed to Bayer-Monsanto Merger

Washington, DC – Earlier today the U.S. Department of Justice confirmed the merger of Bayer and Monsanto, creating the world’s largest seed and pesticide corporation, despite selling off more than $9 billion in assets. Pesticide Action Network (PAN) North America and its regional counterparts across the globe, have opposed the merger since its proposal, given the increasing consolidation in the pesticide and seed markets.  A recent survey found that 93% of farmers were opposed to the merger.

“This is a great loss for farmers. These mergers play into the hands of large corporations and are not in the best interest for farmers,” said Denise O’Brien, Iowa farmer and Board President of PAN.
