Health Professionals Urge EPA to Deny 2,4-D Corn

Statement of Emily Marquez, PhD, endocrinologist and staff scientist for Pesticide Action Network on the letter authored by 70 health professionals, including Dr. Marquez, urging EPA to deny new uses of 2,4-D:

"There is growing evidence linking the weedkiller 2,4-D to cancer, lowered sperm counts, birth defects, neurological damage and other serious health harms. The risks are especially severe for kids, who are more susceptible to chemical exposure. The chemical can drift in the air around schools, playgrounds and in homes, where it can persist for months. This dangerous and antiquated herbicide shouldn’t be on the market, and by introducing its new genetically engineered 2,4-D resistant corn, Dow is lining its pockets by massively driving up the use of 2,4-D. That's why doctors and public health scientists from around the country are joining with family farmers in urging EPA to deny Dow's application for new uses of this dangerous chemical product."
