A note from PAN Board Chair Nse Obot Witherspoon

As a mom and a children’s health advocate, I have a deep personal connection to PAN’s work. We all know how important it is to create a world that’s healthy and safe for our kids, and when it comes to food and farming, PAN is getting it done. That’s why I’ve been a proud member of the Board of Directors for the past seven years, and now serve as PAN’s Board Chair.

PAN celebrated some momentous wins this past year, including California’s ban of the pesticide chlorpyrifos — a hard-to-pronounce chemical that wreaks havoc on children’s developing brains. This victory came from years of organizing with community partners in California who are on the frontlines of exposure to chlorpyrifos, and built on last year’s ban in Hawaiʻi. This is exactly why being a national network matters.

It takes time, energy and on-the-ground persistence to make this kind of change.

Last month I joined our board, staff, supporters and allies to celebrate the 35th anniversary of this amazing organization. Nayamin Martinez, director of the Central California Environmental Justice Network and key partner in the chlorpyrifos battle took the stage to celebrate the win:

The journey of collaborating with PAN scientists helped us understand how harmful these pesticides are for children, and for everyone else in our community.

And in every community across the country.

We all know we won’t win the battle for a healthy food system one pesticide at a time. But high-profile wins like chlorpyrifos help people understand that we’re growing our food with dangerous chemicals that put our kids at risk, and that there is another way.

As we head into the year-end giving season, I invite you to consider a gift to PAN. Your support will help us continue to work and win alongside partners like Nyamin to build a healthier future for us all. Consider a gift today, to keep PAN going strong as we head into 2020 and beyond.

Thank you so much for joining me in the PAN community!
