The use of toxic pesticides is a global threat to human health and the environment. Pesticides pollute the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe. It is a major driving factor in the unprecedented collapse of insect populations and biodiversity loss. Each year, 385 million farmers and farmworkers suffer from acute pesticide poisoning.

Update: Just last week, EPA announced a ban on all food uses of chlorpyrifos! Though the decision is not perfect — and we’ll continue pressing for phaseout of all remaining, non-food uses of this dangerous chemical — this is a huge milestone that protects the health of millions of children, farmworkers and families. Next up, we’ll continue pushing for the EPA to do the right thing by following the science and standing up to corporate influence.

Late last month, peasant movements, Indigenous peoples and civil society organizations (CSOs) sent two strong messages to those in charge of the UN Food Systems Summit (UN FSS) at a Pre-Summit event in Rome.
