Where We Work

PAN works at the state, federal, and international level to organize, advocate, and communicate

We work with grassroots groups, national and international networks and coalitions, and strategic partners to build movements and cultivate sustainable change.

At the state level, PAN supports grassroots work through training, elevation, and advocacy. We prioritize agility in our state-level work, seeking to be able to respond effectively in leading agriculture states when momentum around pesticides is building or has the potential to build. For example, in 2023-2025, PAN worked extensively in Iowa with grassroots groups who wanted to stop Failure to Warn legislation in that state which would have given pesticide manufacturers a shield from litigation. This effort was successful; Iowans retain the right to hold pesticide companies accountable when their products cause harm.

Nationally, we work in coalition with movement-aligned organizations to support safer, more resilient food and farming systems and practices. This can look like working groups who focus on one area of work like pesticides’ impact on climate, collective campaigns against corporate control, nation-wide strategic communications campaigns, education around federal legislation, and many other things.

Internationally, PAN is part of a network of sister organizations known as PAN International. There are five regional centers, each independently run, that work in their respective regions to end reliance on toxic pesticides and promote sustainable alternatives such as agroecology. Additionally, we engage in international scientific education opportunities via the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UN FAO) to advocate for international bans and phase-out commitments for specific pesticides.
