In California’s rural counties, families often live in close proximity to conventional agricultural production.

In recent years, the science linking pesticide exposure to childhood health harms has gotten consistently stronger — particularly for childhood cancers and neurodevelopmental harms. Seven of the top eight pesticides used in California are considered probable carcinogens, several of which are applied within a quarter mile of rural schools.

Children living in agricultural communities — in California and beyond — are bearing the burden of our ongoing reliance on pesticides.
