There are millions of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in use today. PFAS are fluorinated substances that are used for many different industrial applications including in nonstick cookware coatings, in grease proofing coatings in paper food containers, and in pesticides.
PFAS chemicals are persistent and slow to break down in the environment, making them a public health concern due to the many negative health effects associated with PFAS exposure. A recent study analyzed the prevalence of PFAS in pesticides. This issue brief highlights their findings and offers policy recommendations to improve the regulation of these substances.
